Folsom Telegraph honored by CNPA for 2016 photography The Folsom Telegraph has been honored by the California Newspapers Publishers Association for photojournalism in the 2016 California Newspapers Publishers Association Better Newspapers contest. The awards were presented at the conclusion of the CNPA Press Summit in Santa Monica on Saturday, May 20. Bill Sullivan, Editorial Content and Advertising Manager for the Folsom Telegraph earned an Honorable Mention award in the category of feature sports photography. The honor is Sullivan’s seventh professional award of his career and his first for the Folsom Telegraph and Gold Country Media. “I’m very humbled to be honored by the CNPA for this photo, it’s been a long time,” said Sullivan, who’s last award came in 1994 from the CNPA and the Society of Professional Journalists. “This particular photo was one that was really special to me last year as it was two well-known locals sharing a personal moment at a national event in Folsom.” The winning photograph was taken during the 2016 Amgen Tour of California visit to the city of Folsom. On the podium, Sullivan captured an emotional moment between Folsom resident Erin Gorrell, owner of Folsom Bike, and Neilson Powless, of Roseville, after he won the Best Young Rider Jersey in the Folsom leg of the Amgen Tour of California. Gorrell had mentored and supported Powless since he began cycling. "Incredibly proud of the entire Folsom Telegraph team. This award is a sign of the improvements being made every day in Folsom,” said Tom Kirk, vice president and chief operating officer for Brehm Communications. “The Telegraph is a bright light among the many community newspapers published by Brehm Communications." The Folsom Telegraph is published by Gold Country Media and Brehm Communications. This year the local newspaper group garnered 10 different awards in various categories from the CNPA between the Auburn Journal, the Roseville Press Tribune and the Folsom Telegraph. “We are thrilled with winning these awards at the Auburn Journal, The Press Tribune and the Folsom Telegraph,” said Gold Country Media General Manager Bob Falk.
