FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DANNEMAN’S COFFEE IN THE OLD 4TH WARD

OPEN SOON on the corner of Edgewood and Boulevard

June 4, 2008  Danneman's is located in the heart of the Old Fourth Ward in a historic building, on the corner of Edgewood and Boulevard. The original Danneman’s was a super market that served the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood for many years prior to closing in 19xx. After a short stint as a laundry it sat abandoned and boarded up along with the rest of the blighted Edgewood Avenue.

Local resident, Joe Stewardson eyed this sad building and determined to restore it, buying it from the original Danneman family. Many developers buy a property and sit on it waiting for the prices to go up when they can flip a building to someone else for a hefty profit. That was not Stewardson’s model. He dug in and restored the building and it became the lynch pin which spearheaded further development of the Edgewood commercial district.

Stewardson’s first tenant was the Javaology coffee shop, which had been the business anchor of the neighborhood for the past several years. Their motto “Building Community One Cup at a Time” was right in line with Stewardson’s vision. Recently Javaology closed for personal reasons to much dismay of its patrons.

Two other restaurants, The Corner Tavern and Café Circa, have recently opened in the remaining space of what was the old market, right next door to the coffee shop, and are doing well.  With a sense of commitment to this community, Stewardson and business partner, Kate Pedrick will open Danneman’s Coffee in the Old 4th Ward, infusing it with the fundamental spirit of the original Danneman’s market and getting back to the basic meet and greet aspect of this neighborhood icon.

Designers Judi Knight and Grant Henry, jumped in to bring Danneman’s back to its heritage in this important neighborhood, using the original signage and other materials from that era, together with cozy seating vignettes that are designed for working as well as some settings that invite  friendly conversations. A warm, welcoming vibe will permeate Danneman’s enhancing interaction and connection between patrons, new and old.

The downstairs space features tall ceilings, handsome woodwork, large vintage windows, and midcentury furnishings such as lab tables and Navy chairs. There a 2,500 square feet area upstairs with exposed brick walls, lots of windows and beautiful wood floors. This space is a perfect place to work, to dance or to hold a meeting. An outside patio will allow the alfresco coffee break. Every part of Danneman’s will exude a comfortable, casual atmosphere that will welcome friends and neighbors to spend some time here.

In addition to great local micro-roasted coffee, Danneman’s will serve good basic food at moderate prices. Didn’t have time to make a lunch? Not to worry, you can pick up a bag lunch that would do your mother proud. The, best location, with good, comfortable design will make Danneman’s Coffee in the Old 4th Ward a neighborhood institution once again. Get your gossip and hot coffee here!
